The Patents granted were originally applied for on the model and theory of the working cross and plumb line in 1999 as a navigation, astronomy and surveying instrument. This was carried out so as to obtain an approval for the working model in support of the theory in the spirit of normal scientific practice.
The instrument is now available along with the book, The Golden Thread of Time that explains the history and working methods behind this remarkable historical instrument
